And So It Begins...

Ah, so here we are. I meant to start this blog and anonymously chronicle my life as I left for University and experienced new things. Only that didn't happen because of one factor I forgot to consider: I procrastinate everything. Not only that, but I am also extremely forgetful (as I am sure you all will come to discover). So, here I am, two weeks into the start of my Freshman Year, and just now starting this up. I guess I should get to posting and so I can catch y'all up on whats happened to me so far.

Burned In The Back Of My Mind

For years I've had the same image burned into my mind. I am sitting in a studio apartment in New York City. I am grown, graduated from college, and living on my own. The cramped apartment feels strangely huge in its vacancy, it's brick walls lit only by a single florescent bulb that hangs above the table. Wind and snow whip past the windows, the chill seeping into the room through the cracks. I push the food from my microwaved meal around the plate with disinterest. I repeatedly glance at my watch until its face reads midnight. "Merry Christmas," I say to no one in particular. I am alone, disowned, and unwanted on a holiday meant to be spent with family and close friends. "But it's your fault" they'd say. "You were the one who chose to be gay."

High School Baggage

Today marks the end of my second official week of classes at college, and this weekend will be my third weekend of living in the dorm. It's a bit surreal to be looking back now. Three weeks of freedom. Three weeks of independence. Three weeks of confusion. You know, in the movies they tell you that college is when you can finally be accepted for who you truly are. The gay characters in movies are always suddenly out of the closet and living fabulous lives. Well, I am here to tell you that this is not the case. Rather, I have baggage leftover from high school in a couple different forms: First, I have no experience with casually coming out. How do you tell someone that you've known for a week that you are gay? Are you even supposed to tell them?
